Victorian Shelters Don’t Want to Kill Unnecessarily

Our shelters are run by professionals who understand the needs of the cats and dogs in their care. A difficult but necessary part of the job involves deciding when to euthanase on humane grounds. Shelter staff go through a lot of heartbreak in the course of caring for these animals, more than many of us could take.

The ’28 Day Rule’ Requires Them To

No other industry requires employees to kill what they love and we should not require them to do so unnecessarily. Each week Victoria’s ’28 day rule’ results in more healthy adoptable dogs and cats falling limp in their arms.
